ALL-IN-ONE DJ SYSTEM
Pioneer DJ continue to push forward and this time its an absolute head turner. The new OPUS-QUAD will shake things up in more than just the looks department. This new all-in-one DJ system puts you in control of the music. It combines powerful design and playability to create harmony between different functions, a real standalone 4-deck playback DJ system.
Let's talk about the elephant in the room right away. It looks like an Atari video game console from the future (yes we are that old). Its sleek design that is way out of left field from a brand like Pioneer DJ. While its look is sophisticated and modern it also aids its operation. Looks arent the only big change - check the jog wheels out! We will cover that more a little later in our "our thoughts" section.
It has been a very long time that we have seen a bold move in the look and functionality of Pioneer DJ's products and we love it. The OPUS-QUAD offers standalone 4-deck playback yes right at your fingers to take DJ performances to the next level. Here's the thing it supports various media types during playback as well and it's both Rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro compatible.
Diggin through your tracks has never been easier thanks to the large touch display and new rotary selector on the OPUS-QUAD. At first we were a little taken by the layout and design but everything is where you would expect it making performing comfortable and almost like it should have been this way from the start.
Product Features
Brand-new design and playability
It really is a beautiful piece of kit that matte black finish is almost naughty in appearance, making it look like it should be a display piece in a new home. But here's where it actually makes sense theres an angle (they say 5-degree) on the front edge which is smooth and rounded, making it more comfortable to rest your hands on. A massive tick over some of the previous kit we've seen years gone by. Now the talking point for most will be the Jog Wheels and the new aesthetics / feel which will take some die hard DJ's a while to get used to. It's new and it is definitely grippy. Personal preference here.
Standalone 4-deck playback
As mentioned above the Pioneer DJ OPUS-QUAD offers standalone 4-deck playback meaning you can play 4 tracks on 4 different decks simultaneously, which should be the standard moving forward we expect. The Opus Quad does it well and we hope this will bring back the 4 deck DJ performances that have gone by the way side the past few years.
Professional FX
Leaders in FX its no surpise here that Pioneer DJ deliver once again with the OPUS-QUAD Beat FX. The XY-Pad makes it easy to control features such as FX Bank and channel select, as Beat FX parameters and the cut-off frequency of the filter are controlled by movement on the X and Y-axis respectively, so you can blend both effects with a single finger. Loads to dive into here that has to been seen and heard to really understand.
Our Thoughts
We're cutting down all the marketing jazz on the Opus Quad. It's fresh its sleek and for something this different to feel like it should have been released years ago says a lot. Pioneer DJ are making moves even while their head and shoulders above the competition. The Quad plays literally everything USB, Thumbdrives, Wi-Fi, Serato DJ Pro, Rekordbox with features like rapid track search on the stunning 10.1-inch touch screen make a search for songs almost enjoyable. The new Smart Rotary Selector offers a joystick-like experience with left/right, up/down, rotation, and push control (another Atari reference?).
But things just keep getting better.... The new slick deck layout includes a deck display and 8 Hot Cue buttons above each full-size jog wheel. Meaning no need to stop looking at the crowd for long periods while checking track information. And with the new Smart Cue feature, you can automatically overwrite the current cue position with recalled Hot Cues.
All in all - WOW. It's not often that new gear rocks the boat. The Opus Quad definitely will. Is everyone going to love the new look and features. No. But give them time to imbrace new hardware and what this can deliver and we expect it to be a staple.
Check it out in store to really get a feel for it.
